How to Get Work Permit in Turkey

The work permit in Turkey is a privilege issued by the Turkish government for foreign citizens, whether they are individuals or companies alike, granting them the right to work or start a private business in Turkey.

Advantages of Work Permit in Turkey

Work permits in Turkey provide the holder a set of advantages, such as the opportunity to obtain Turkish citizenship, and these permits are granted for foreigner investors or private companies, in addition to the regular types of workers.

The work permit system in Turkey provides lot of guarantees for both private and public sectors, as well as many other services that grants workers various benefits that accrue to the employee and his family members legally residing in Turkey, these benefits can be listed as:

  1. Register in the insurance system (SGK), and receive free medical services in public hospitals.
  2. Ensuring the rights of workers holding work permits in Turkey are preserved from unfair dismissal.
  3. Workers and employees receive end-of-service compensation.
  4. Freedom of travel, residence and movement within Turkish territory.
  5. The possibility of applying for a Schengen visa to travel to Europe.
  6. The right to apply for Turkish citizenship after 5 years on the validity of the work permit, and the person should stay in Turkey for a period exceeding 6 months.

As for the work permits for Syrian citizens holding temporary protection documents, they have the same privileges as mentioned before, but with restrictions on movement and travel, however, it is not clear whether they are allowed to apply for Turkish citizenship after completing the specified quorum.

How to Get Work Permit in Turkey?

  1. Acquiring a tourist residence permit in Turkey for more than 6 months.
  2. (For Syrians) a temporary protection card, which is commonly known as the Kimlik card.
  3. The company's capital shall not be less than 100.000 Turkish liras.
  4. Hiring 5 Turkish employees for each foreigner who obtains a work residence in Turkey, except for the company’s owner.
  5. Paying all taxes and insurances incurred by the company.
